Menus
In the Preferences window activate or deactivate any of the provided menus:
User-Defined: If you want to build your own menu (like the 'real' old Apple Menu), activate the User-Defined menu and add files, folders, or aliases to '~/Library/Application Support/XMenu/Custom' (this folder will be created after starting XMenu for the first time). You could, e.g., copy the contents of your Favorites folder or create aliases of your favorite applications and documents here to have them show up in the menu.
Snippets: Plain and rich text documents, text clippings, Internet locations, and other files added to the folder for the Snippets menu are not opened using the Finder when you select them but their content is inserted into the current application if no modifier key is pressed.
All menus and sub-menus update themselves automatically (unlimited number of hierarchies) just like the good old Apple Menu so it's not necessary to refresh them manually or after a certain time interval. XMenu also follows aliases and symbolic links.
Sorting: Choose whether to sort all items by name, folders before files, or the other way round.
Icons
XMenu shows files and folders either as small or large text and with small or large icons. Choose how you would like your XMenu menu to appear.
In addition, you can choose whether you'd like XMenu to use individual icons for files and folders or if it should use generic icons instead. Generic icons are usually much faster but, well, a bit generic.
Other
Menu Title: Choose if you like your XMenu menus as icons, titles, or both.
Start at launch: Check this option to start XMenu when you login and so keep it ready at all times.
