TaskCard uses a special invisible helper application (which doesn't appear in the Dock when open) to help you remember when tasks are overdue or will be due soon. Throughout the manual this application is referred to as the TaskCard Helper.
Contents
If you decide you don't want to get notifications or see the TaskCard icon in your menu bar the Helper can be quit by selecting the Quit item in the TaskCard menu bar item. Note, clicking the close button will only close the window, not the entire helper application.
Later if you decide you want to get notifications you can launch it again by selecting the Launch Helper... item in the File menu.
By default the Helper will launch at startup but this can be disabled in the settings (see below).
The notification window will appear above all other windows on your system and can be closed/opened via the close button, the menu bar item or using a hot key of your choice which can be assigned in the settings. Because the window floats feel free to move it to any location on your screen. If it's moved towards the bottom of the screen it will "anchor" which causes the window to expand from the top (maintaing a fixed bottom location) when tasks are added or removed. Otherwise the window will expand from the bottom, maintaing a fixed top location.
When a task is assigned a due date in TaskCard it will appear in the notification window (in a section defined by the tasks card) with a note of when the task will be due or how many days it's overdue.
The helper is also used for reminders that can be set inside of TaskCard for tasks with dates. If the helper is not open reminders will not be issued. This is because TaskCard can be safely closed and you will still be able to get reminders by the hidden Helper application.
When notifications are enabled (by launching the Helper application) an item in the menu bar will appear in the TaskCard icon. This item allows you to toggle the notification window and quit the Helper application.
If you don't want to see the TaskCard item in the menu bar it can be turned off via the settings. Note that if you remove the menu bar item you can only see notifications by pressing the hot key (see Settings below) or when they appear as a reminder of when tasks are overdue.
The Helper offers a few settings which can be accessed in the TaskCard preferences window.
